Arthur Templeman, a longtime resident of Santa Cruz County, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. He was 90.
Born in San Mateo, his parents, Arthur and Doris moved to Carmel to raise their three children. Mr. Templeman had fond memories of his “glory days” playing on the lightweight basketball team and basking in the sun on Carmel Beach. He graduated from Fresno State University, and then went on to get his teaching credential. He spent most of his years teaching fifth and sixth grades at MacQuiddy Elementary School. He enjoyed teaching U.S. history as well as doing arts and crafts with his students.
After he retired, Mr. Templeman spent years traveling to numerous countries throughout Africa, Europe and Mexico. He became a pilot and loved flying Cessna airplanes along the coast. He was an active member of Toastmasters, and the Capitola Bridge Club. Five years ago, Mr. Templeman suffered a massive stroke and had to go through speech and physical therapy. The family brought in an incredible caregiver, Lizette, who spent the last five years by his side.
Mr. Templeman is survived by his longtime companion, Barbara Johnson; his three children, Arthur Templeman III of San Jose, Ronda Williams-Kniffin of Aptos, and Karen Odmark of La Jolla; and four grandchildren.
At his request, the family will have a private gathering.
