October 13, 1943 – August 22, 2018

Sharon Elizabeth Alaga, 74, of Corralitos passed away peacefully on August 22, 2018 surrounded by her family. She lost a two-year courageous battle against uterine cancer. Sharon fought her illness the same way she lived her life: with a feisty, positive attitude and always with grace and class.

Sharon was born on October 13, 1943 in Watsonville to Marvin and Eunice Humbird. She attended Radcliff, Mintie White and E.A. Hall schools and graduated from Watsonville High in 1961. The following month, she married her devoted husband of 57 years, John Alaga. John and Sharon lived in Watsonville and San Jose for a short time until making Corralitos their final home.

Sharon loved her home, especially when it was filled with her beloved family. She was a phenomenal cook and enjoyed preparing meals, especially Thanksgiving dinner. Sharon loved working in her yard and took pride in their beautiful home. She loved to dance and was usually the first one on the dance floor with her favorite dance partner John. Her biggest enjoyment came from her children and grandchildren, she was beyond proud of each of them. She loved and rarely missed a football, baseball, basketball, water polo, concert or 4H event.

Sharon was an avid member of her community and volunteered several hours with the Corralitos Cultural Center, the scholarship committee of the Corralitos Women’s Club and several Croatian clubs including SACO and Slavic American.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Eunice Humbird, and leaves behind her beloved husband John; children and their spouses John and Robin Alaga, David and Rebecca Alaga, Cindy and Justin Bettencourt, daughter-in-law Debbie Costanzo; grandchildren Jason, Ryan, James, Sean and Haleigh Alaga, Katelyn and Dylan Bettencourt and Alexis Durden; her sisters Billie Jean Sorensen and Betty Allen; several nephews and a niece; her cherished aunt Addie Mae Carson and cousins of Oxnard; and many friends and “sisters” that were near and dear to her heart.

Sharon touched so many lives with her beautiful smile and warm heart. The family would like to thank all of the friends and family members who called, visited, brought meals and said prayers over the past two years, it has meant so much to all of us. We would also like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff that have helped Sharon along her journey, the compassion and kindness that were shown will not be forgotten soon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County or SACO of Watsonville.

Private services will be held at Benito and Azzaro, Pacific Gardens Chapel.  A celebration of life will be held on what would have been Sharon’s 75th birthday on October 13, 2018 from 1 – 4 pm at the family home in Corralitos.
