Alex Martinez, a longtime resident of Watsonville, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. He was 31.

Mr. Martinez was born on May 26, 1987 to Richard Martinez and Jennie Gervasio-Martinez. He will always be remembered for his unique laugh and distinguished sense of humor. He had a big heart and loved to express his love by joking around with his family. He enjoyed barbecuing, fishing and hanging out with family. Mr. Martinez had a love for oldies music, spending quiet times at the beach and sightseeing new places.

He is survived by his daughter, Leah Martinez; his father, Richard Martinez; siblings, Geneve Martinez and Ricky Martinez, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends considered family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie Gervasio-Martinez.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23 at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel from 4:30-9 p.m. Service will be at 6 p.m. There will be a celebration of life at Green Valley Christian Church on Monday, Sept. 24 at 9:30 a.m. The burial will take place at Valley Public Cemetery following Mass. Mr. Martinez will be laid to rest in his Niner attire, and all “faithfuls” are asked to wear their Niner attire as well.
