WATSONVILLE—A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in a 2019 Watsonville case.
Casto Luna, 41, a transient, was found in the area of Ford and Kilburn streets in Watsonville and taken into custody on Monday, Watsonville Police said.
WPD officers and detectives assisted the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office in arresting Luna, who is accused of murdering an elderly man late last year.
Initially, investigators believed that 71-year-old Arnulfo Hernandez had died following an “accidental fall” in Watsonville in October 2019. However, in late May the Sheriff’s Office received new information that Hernandez’s death was a result of a criminal act that took place in north Monterey County. Luna was identified as the murder suspect, police said.
Luna admitted to his actions that led to Hernandez’s death. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail on murder, elder abuse resulting in great bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, witness intimidation and spousal battery, police said.
His bail was set at more than $1 million dollars.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Detective Aras Wilson at 759-7203 or Detective Sergeant Bryan Hoskins at 755-3773.
