Watsonville Police officers arrested a man in an attempted murder investigation.

MIchelle Pulido, spokeswoman for Watsonville Police, said officers responded Saturday night to a stabbing outside a business on the 1000 block of Main Street, where they found a 32-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was taken to an out-of-county trauma center with life-threatening injuries but is now in stable condition.

The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Francisco Nieto, left the scene before police arrived. Less than 24 hours later, patrol officers found Nieto and arrested him. He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.

A preliminary investigation determined that Nieto and the victim had a brief altercation before the stabbing occurred.

Nieto is now facing charges of attempted murder and being held in county jail without bail due to a parole violation, Pulido said.

Anyone with information about the case (23W-04108) is asked to call Detective Robert Strong at 768.3355.
