Boys
Javier Fonseca (Sr.), St. Francis
The Sharks’ starting quarterback accounted for three total touchdowns in a 41-8 blowout win against Harbor High in the teams’ non-league game Sept. 19.
Fonseca recorded a pair of rushing TDs from 3- and 20-yards out, and a 51-yard passing touchdown for St. Francis, which has won three consecutive games after a 24-19 loss to King City in the season-opener.
He also had the game-winning rushing touchdown for the Sharks in a 28-21 victory in overtime against Greenfield on Sept. 13.
Girls
Ella Dueck (So.), Aptos
The standout outside hitter helped lead the Mariners girls’ volleyball team to back-to-back wins in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League after dropping the league-opener to Harbor.
Dueck finished with 15 kills, 15 digs and a pair of blocks in a sweeping three-set (25-20, 25-23, 25-17) win over Santa Cruz in league action Sept. 17. She followed up with 16 kills, six aces and four blocks in a four-set (25-18, 26-28, 25-16, 25-17) win over San Lorenzo Valley just two days later.
She currently has a team-best 70 digs and 67 kills to go along with six blocks and six aces for Aptos this season.
