Attempted homicide suspect caught

WATSONVILLE—Heavily armed police from multiple agencies moved in on a home on the 600 block of Madison Street Thursday and took a man into custody on suspicion of attempted homicide.

Watsonville Police Department spokesperson Michelle Pulido said Emmanuel Plascencia, 28, was arrested without incident.

Pulido said the arrest stems from an attempted homicide on March 24 in which a man was shot multiple times on nearby Stanford Street. The victim was flown to an out of county trauma center by a rescue helicopter. Though he was listed in critical condition at the time, Pulido said he is now recovering.

A 16-year-old male suspect was also arrested earlier Thursday in connection with the attempted homicide, Pulido said.

About a dozen officers from Watsonville and Santa Cruz police departments, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and a County Emergency Response Team sprang on the single-story home around 2pm in numerous vehicles and an armored car. They managed to catch the suspect off guard as he left the home and started to drive off in a Honda sedan.

Assisted by a K9, the team whisked the suspect into a patrol car, made several announcements over a loudspeaker and then entered the home aided with a search warrant.
