December 30, 1934 — February 16, 2019

Barbara Elaine Brand was born in Bakersfield, CA, on December 30, 1934 to Spence and Adene (Dolly) Rhody. Her family moved to Hall District (now Royal Oaks) just before the start of WWII, where she and her younger brothers, Robert and David, spent their youth. Barbara graduated from Watsonville High School in 1952, met and married Bill Brand in 1953, and raised their four children in Freedom, CA.

Barbara was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a past PTA president at Freedom Elementary School, all while taking business and secretarial courses in the evening. She worked for McMahan’s Furniture Stores, and later worked for Santa Cruz County Administration. She retired from the County and moved to Lewiston, CA, where she made her last home. In Lewiston, she was in earlier years active in the Garden Club, and made many friends. She enjoyed community activities at the Lewiston Moose Lodge, and will be greatly missed by the Lodge membership and family and friends in Lewiston and Watsonville.

Barbara was predeceased by her daughter Cheryl Jones, her father Spence Rhody, mother and stepfather Adene (Dolly) and Dale James, her brother Robert Rhody, niece Monnet Rhody, and nephews Gary and Douglas Rhody. 

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law David and Carolyn Rhody, sister-in-law Roberta Rhody, son Anthony (Tony) Brand, son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Natalie Brand, her daughter and son-in-law Martha and Bob Stanton, her grandchildren Alexis and Rebekah Cahalin, Michaela and Daniel Trujillo, Brittany Brand, Chardae Jones, James and Tiffany Stanton, John Stanton, Nicholas and Christina Outin, Michael Brand, and Christopher Brand. She leaves behind her great-grandchildren Peyton Placencia, Rory Outin, Oxiry Stanton, Citlally Stanton, and Daniela Trujillo.

A memorial gathering will take place at the Lewiston Moose Lodge on March 10. Graveside services are scheduled for Thursday, February 28, 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery, Bakersfield, CA.
