Elks Lodge collecting teddy bears for first responders

Watsonville Elks Lodge members are collecting teddy bears to donate to Watsonville’s first responders that will be handed out to children whom have been in a critical situation for comfort.

The lodge will host a dinner to present the teddy bears to the first responders on Nov. 15.

To donate a teddy bear or funds, or for dinner reservations, call the lodge at 724.2493. 

The lodge at 121 Martinelli St. will hold its Holiday Craft Boutique on Nov. 18 from 10am-6pm and Nov. 19 from 10am-4pm.

Vendors are asked to call the lodge to reserve a spot.

Deep Roots Dance Fest returns

Tannery World Dance & Cultural Center will present the second annual Deep Roots Dance Fest: A Reimagining of Dance from the African Diaspora on Nov. 11 from 7-9pm at the Cabrillo Crocker Theater in Aptos. 

Deep Roots is an evening of contemporary dance rooted in traditional forms by established artists from Brazil, Congo and Jamaica.

Deep Roots Dance Fest 2023 features N’Jelle Gage-Thorne presenting both a solo and a piece choreographed by the TWDCC Youth Companies ranging in ages from 6 to 18. The show will also feature TWDCC Diaspora Performance Project artist Vivien Bassouamina, as well as returning choreographer Gervais Tomadiatunga and musician Elie Mabanza. 

Deep Roots also features performances by Makaya (Tata Kaya) and Vera Passos. 

There will be a post-performance talk with the choreographers.
