PRUNEDALE—The California Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s help in locating the person, or persons, responsible for several reported incidents of objects striking vehicles traveling on highways 156 and 101 in the Prunedale area.

Since February the CHP has 38 confirmed cases where vehicles have been struck by an object, some sustaining shattered windows. In each instance, the vehicles have been hit on or near the driver side window by a high velocity projectile. As a result, five people have received minor injuries from broken glass. There have been no traffic collisions because of these incidents, the CHP said.

“The CHP has investigated each of these incidents, but due to their random nature, we have not been able to identify a suspect or suspects,” said CHP Capt. Kyle Foster. “We are asking the public to remain vigilant but to also report any suspicious behavior or provide us with any information they may have regarding suspects. The safety of the public is our highest priority.”

The CHP advises anyone that gets hit by a projectile to pull over right away when it is safe, make a note of the time and location that it occurred and call 911. Don’t disturb any evidence and do not follow the suspect, said CHP public information officer Jessica Madueño.

Recently eight vehicles were hit inside of a 15-minute block.

Anyone with information regarding the person(s) responsible for these incidents is asked to call the CHP, Monterey Area office, at (831) 770-8000.
