APTOS — The California Highway Patrol will once again be offering a “Smart Start” driving course on July 17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Aptos Public Library, 7695 Soquel Drive.

The classes are aimed at helping newly licensed or soon-to-be-licensed drivers age 15-19 stay safe behind the wheel. CHP officers speak directly with attendees to discuss topics such as collision avoidance techniques, excessive speeding, and DUI, and distracted driving.

The primary objective of the program is to provide teens and parents with an understanding of how poor choices behind the wheel can affect the lives of numerous people. It provides information on defensive driving, laws, and more.

Parents are required to attend the program along with their teen.
