Vote for new public art at Ramsay

The City of Watsonville, Pajaro Valley Arts and Community Arts & Empowerment is asking the public to vote for its preferred artwork to be placed on the entryway of the Community Center at Ramsay Park.

The choices have been narrowed to three images. The winning image will be made at the Muzzio Mosaic Arts Center.

Public Scoping meeting for Pajaro River Project

A public meeting to receive input on the environmental impact report for the Pajaro River Flood Risk Management Project scope and content will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday at the Civic Plaza Community Room, 275 Main Street.

The project is located within the Pajaro River watershed and includes approximately 10,000 acres of active floodplains in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, along the lower Pajaro River and Salsipuedes and Corralitos creeks, and existing bridge crossings at State Routes 1, 129 and 152.

Meridian purchases 1.15 acres in Watsonville

Meridian, a full-service real estate developer and owner of medical real estate, recently announced it closed escrow on the purchase of two parcels of vacant land totaling 1.15 acres in Watsonville, with the intent to develop an 11,424-square-foot outpatient ambulatory clinic. 

The planned investment, including land, is estimated to total approximately $10 million for the ground-up development project. Construction is expected to commence in April with completion slated for January 2021.

The land is located at 58 Hanger Way and 5 Neilson St. directly adjacent to the Watsonville Community Hospital and the Watsonville Hospital ER.

CRV services return through Ben Lomond pilot 

The County of Santa Cruz announced the re-establishment of a pilot beverage container recycling center in the San Lorenzo Valley.

Due to declines in the global recycling market, numerous facilities accepting California Redemption Value products have closed throughout California in recent years, including all 281 operated by RePlanet. The re-establishment of redemption services in partnership with Grey Bears fulfills an important community need while increasing convenience for residents. 

Staffed by Grey Bears, the new CRV center operates Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ben Lomond Transfer Station, 9835 Newell Creek Rd.
