Mayor for a Day contest opens
Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be the Mayor of a city? Now is your chance to be Mayor for the Day with Watsonville Mayor Francisco “Paco” Estrada.
To be considered, submit a one-page essay to fr***************@pv***********.org by Nov. 29. A winner will be chosen on Dec. 1 and will be able to spend a day in the life of the mayor on Dec. 9.
This opportunity is open to high school students from Watsonville, Pajaro Valley, Pacific Coast Charter and New School.
Free throw contest returns
The Elk’s Lodge of Watsonville is hosting a free throw shooting contest for kids from the Watsonville community ages 8-13 on Dec. 7 at Lakeview Middle School.
There is no cost to participate.
The winning boy and girl from three age ranges (8-9, 10-11, 12-13) will advance to the district competition in Santa Clara in January.
SACO holding Christmas dinner
The Slavic American Cultural Organization (SACO) will hold its Christmas Dinner on Dec. 14, at the Watsonville Woman’s Club, 12 Brennan St. at 4 p.m.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Take out is available.
No tickets will be sold at the door, and reservations must be made by Dec. 9. For information and reservations, call 722-3268.
Shop Small Saturday returns
For the third year in a row Shop Small Saturday will run in the East Lake Village Shopping Center Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Falling the day after black Friday, the event, which is part of a nationwide movement known as Small Business Saturday, is designed to showcase small local businesses.
This year more than 20 makers for the makers market will be present on top of family fun, treats, hayrides, caroling with local singer Kimberly Ferm, Christmas crafts and scores of gifts ideas.
