WATSONVILLE — Watsonville High School seniors spend their lives in their community, and many will leave for different ones when they graduate in June.
Before they leave, however, they must complete a project that benefits the community in which they grew up.
The Community Action Projects (CAP) are the culmination of four years of high school and an epilogue to a story that began when they first set foot on a school campus. The CAP projects are also a graduation requirement.
Now, the community is invited to see the projects on Thursday and Friday, when the projects will be on display, with projects changing every two hours.
“They put a lot of work into it,” said Mayra Medrano, who along with Maite Cruz is leading publicity for the two-day event.
The projects run an astounding gamut, with projects that include creating a prom for LGBT youth, leading a fundraiser for Jacob’s Heart and providing quality feminine hygiene products for WHS students.
Some students organized a run that raised money for diabetes, and others created a semi-professional soccer league.

The Community Action Project Presentations are Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Watsonville High School library, 250 East Beach St. Visitors should first check in at the office.
