WATSONVILLE — Coralia Funes died peacefully at Watsonville Community Hospital on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. She was 96.

She was born to Juan Madrid Funes and Concepcion Fonseca in Guatemala City on Nov. 13, 1920. She was a Watsonville resident for 17 years and proud to be a U.S. citizen. She was an exceptionally talented person who studied in English and French, and attended the university in Guatemala to study Civil Engineering. She enjoyed listening to classical music, and reading novels from Alexandre Dumas. She also liked to watch western movies with Randoph Scott and John Wayne. She had a “green thumb,” any avocado pit she planted would sprout to become a tree.

She is survived by her daughter, Heidi Liu; son-in-law, Gary Liu; special friends; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Mehls Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
