WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville City Council met in closed session Wednesday evening to discuss the future of the city manager position, but took no action, according to City Attorney Alan Smith.

The city is looking to replace Charles Montoya, who resigned as city manager on May 23 after nearly three years at the helm. Montoya has accepted the city manager position in Avondale, Ariz.

Assistant City Manager Matt Huffaker is slated to serve as interim city manager following Montoya’s departure on Aug. 1.

It is unknown if the council will appoint a new manager from within the city’s ranks, or if it will conduct a nationwide search.
