The third-annual Pitch In All County Cleanup Day ran May 9 with over 100 organizations targeting litter between Davenport and the Pajaro Valley.

Sally-Christine Rodgers, organizer for the local group Trash Talkers, said early results show 635 people participated in the massive clean up, that included all ages, and more than 3,205.5 lb of trash was hauled off to the landfill.

In Watsonville, PVArts, Watsonville Youth Center, Watsonville Public Library were among a slough of groups who weighed in with the event to help engage the community and educate people about the hazards of litter.

PVArts staged a Mother’s Day card making table while Watsonville Rotary, and the Youth Center held a scavenger hunt where kids will pick up litter as they make their way to different businesses to get clues and coupons for a free drink and taco. For information about future events and how to get involved, visit pitchinsantacruz.org
