A majority of the confirmed COVID-19 cases in Monterey County are in people 49 years old or younger.
That’s according to data released by county officials Saturday, which provided new details on the age, gender and region of residence of the county’s 34 confirmed cases.
Twenty-one of those cases were in people 49 years or younger. Eight people between 50-64 have tested positive and the remaining five cases were in people 65 and older.
The majority of the confirmed cases, 19, were based in the Salinas area.
The number of confirmed cases in the northern reaches of the county, which includes nearby towns Pajaro, Las Lomas and Aromas, were still minimal. As such, county officials combined the number of cases in the northern and southern regions to meet confidentiality protocols. There were six combined cases in those areas.
One of those cases was a Las Lomas man who died at Watsonville Community Hospital last week.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY
County officials confirmed five new COVID-19 cases Saturday, bringing the total here to 39.
STATE
The California Department of Public Health said there were 4,643 confirmed cases and 101 deaths as of 2 p.m. Friday.
NATION
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Saturday announced confirmed cases in the U.S. had increased from roughly 85,000 to just more than 103,000 in 24 hours. They also reported that 1,668 had died from the disease.
