Today is Memorial Day, a federal holiday in the U.S. designed to honor and mourn military personnel who died while serving in the armed forces. It also marks the unofficial start of summer in the U.S.

Travel is at an all-time low this holiday weekend, officials at AAA said. There is a heat advisory in effect and forecasters say it will hang around into Thursday. Inland highs today will be around 90 degrees with low 80s along the coast. Some inland temps could top 100 into the week. Meanwhile, 3-8 inches of snow fell in Denver as a massive cold front tumbled through that section of The Rockies over the weekend and into Memorial Day.

The CHP is in its maximum enforcement period over the holiday, focusing on speeding, partying and DUIs.
