Dorothy Garske, age 84, died peacefully at home in Aptos, CA on December 20, 2018.

She was born in El Paso, Texas to Clifton Otto and Martha Stewart, and was raised in Texas, Arizona and California as her parents migrated westward.

She completed high school in Santa Cruz, CA, where she met the man with whom she fell in love, married, and spent the next 66 years: Thomas Garske. Together they raised six children. She followed him during his military service to Alaska, then home through Oregon to California, settling in the Santa Cruz area.

Dorothy was active in her community through a variety of church activities and 4-H leadership. She worked for Santa Cruz School district at Soquel High School for a decade after all her children had reached school age.

She is survived by 5 of her children, all 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy’s Vigil will be Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at 7 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church in Aptos, CA, with a Memorial Mass on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at 11 a.m. at that same location.
