Dorothy M. McGrath died peacefully on August 6, 2017, at Dominican Hospital with family by her side. She was 93. A native of Watsonville, she was born to William D. and Ada (Gaines) Loveless.
Dorothy graduated from Watsonville High School in 1942 and married George McGrath in 1943. She was a part time bookkeeper for their farming business (George McGrath and Sons). Dorothy was a member of the volunteer Pink Ladies at Watsonville Hospital, enjoyed bunko and going out to lunch with a group of lady friends for many years. Cooking and canning, especially apricot jam and string beans, were also some of her favorite things to do.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Dan (Ann) McGrath and Richard (Patty) McGrath all of Watsonville; five grandchildren, Harold (Leticia) Rodgers of Watsonville, Michael (Heather) Rodgers of Arkansas, Scott (Angela) McGrath of Colorado, Lisa McGrath of Watsonville and Trish McGrath also of Watsonville; four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2000; her brother, Milton Loveless, in 2002; and her daughter, Kathleen, who passed away this year in April. She lived in her home with her grandson, Harold and his wife Leticia, who were her wonderful caregivers for the last several years.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 14, at 11:00 a.m., at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. Donations are preferred to the charity of one’s choice.
