WATSONVILLE — Esperanza Hernandez died peacefully surrounded by her family at a local nursing home on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. She was 91.

Mrs. Hernandez was born to Nicolas Hernandez and Angela Pantoja in San Cristobal Zapotitlan, Jalisco, Mexico on May 28, 1926, but lived most of her life in San Pedro Tesistan, Jalisco. She was a resident of this community for 12 years. She was a happy and friendly person who loved to cook delicious meals for her family. Mrs. Hernandez liked to watch novelas (soap operas) and “Caso Cerrado” (a court and judge show). Mrs. Hernandez also liked to talk politics and knit. She was a woman of faith, and very devoted to her Catholic religion.

Mrs. Esperanza Hernandez is survived by three sons, Manuel, Ramon and Pedro Hernandez; six daughters, Maria Refugio, Jesus, Gloria, Socorro, Edubiges, and Maria Agueda Hernandez; and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Ramiro Hernandez (2016).

Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Saturday, July 22 from 5-9 p.m. with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass and burial will take place in San Pedro Tesistan, Jalisco, Mexico.
