WATSONVILLE — Evangelina Rodriguez died peacefully surrounded by her family at Watsonville Community Hospital on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. She was 92.

Mrs. Rodriguez was born to Jesus Rodriguez and Sara Casares in Michoacán, Mexico on Sept. 7, 1924. Mrs. Rodriguez was always an excellent cook so she opened and ran her own restaurant in Mexico for many years. Later she decided to join her family in Watsonville. She liked to tend to her birds, dance, and watch many sports on television such as bull runs, boxing and soccer. Mrs. Rodriguez would visit her hometown in Mexico occasionally taking her grandchildren with her. She was a loving and caring person with a great sense of humor. 

Mrs. Rodriguez is survived by her daughter, Graciela Gomez Rodriguez; three sons, J. Enrique Gomez Rodriguez, Salvador Gomez Rodriguez, and Luis Arturo Salcedo Rodriguez; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Monday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. at Valley Catholic Church, burial will take place in Fresno at a later date.
