WATSONVILLE — Three people – one of them an infant – suffered serious injuries Friday night in a head-on collision near Hecker Pass.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Swift, a Nissan 350z traveling east on Highway 152 about 9:04 p.m. crossed the double-yellow lines in an attempt to pass another vehicle illegally and crashed into a Honda Civic traveling west.

The people in the Honda were taken to trauma centers with serious and major injuries.

The CHP is investigating the crash, and the driver of the Nissan could face reckless driving charges.

The people in the Honda are Abraham and Clarissa Mercado, who were going on their first outing since their baby was released from a local neonatal intensive care unit, according to their Gofundme page.

Their son was also in the vehicle.

All three of them are in critical condition, the Gofundme page said.

Abraham has a broken back, disintegrated L5, broken clavicle, shattered kneecaps, broken wrist and multiple other injuries. Clarissa faces a few more surgeries.
