WATSONVILLE — Farm Discovery at Live Earth will host its annual benefit dinner on Sept. 21, featuring local chefs, farmers, winemakers and artisans, supporting the organization’s many educational programs.
Farm Discovery at Live Earth is a farm-based education nonprofit organization aiming to empower youth and families to build and sustain healthy food, farming, social and natural systems.
This year’s event, “Element,” will feature the creations of Chef Jessica Yarr of the Bon Appétit Management Company; Yarr has been developing a “hearty, plant-forward” main course just for the event.
Diego Felix of Colectivo Felix and Tabitha Stroup of Terroir in a Jar will prepare the appetizer course, and Chef Matt McNamara of Pretty Good Advice tossing together a seasonal salad. Penny Ice Creamery will create a dessert course.
All four courses will feature fresh, local produce and other artisan ingredients. The event also offers craft cocktails, wine, beer, live music and both silent and live auctions.
The auctions will include surprises donated from resorts, hotels, artisans, and businesses from Big Sur to Shelter Cove. Live music will be provided by Sugar by the Pound, and Mayor Francisco Estrada will give the keynote address.
The event will be held at Live Earth Farm, 172 Litchfield Ln., Watsonville from 4-8 p.m., atop a bluff with a view of the Pajaro Valley and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Guests are asked to park in the designated areas and walk through the farm to the event site.
Tickets are $150 for General Admission and $1,500 for a Table for 10. To register and to learn about sponsorship opportunities visit eventbrite.com.

In 2018 over 3,500 students visited Live Earth Farm to learn about food, farming and the environment. Hands-on programs allow youth to harvest and taste foods while learning about organic agriculture, nutrition, ecology and science concepts. Farm Discovery at Live Earth aims to raise $60,000 through “Element” to support farm visits, transportation costs and garden & kitchen supplies.
