SANTA CRUZ — Police shut down Highway 1 in Santa Cruz early Saturday morning where a male pedestrian was struck by several cars.

The man was reportedly walking in the northbound lanes near the Emeline Avenue exit when he was struck by multiple vehicles at 4:40 a.m. in dark and wet conditions. The California Highway Patrol, Sheriff deputies and Santa Cruz Police shut down all northbound lanes for several hours. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation, said CHP officer Sam Courtney.
