Francisco “Pancho” Alvarez died peacefully surrounded by his family at Watsonville Community Hospital on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018. He was 99.
Mr. Alvarez was born to Dolores Alvarez and Concepcion Rodriguez on Oct. 26, 1918 in La Huerta, Jalisco, México. He has been a resident of this community for more than 40 years. Before retiring he worked as a laborer in the strawberry ranches for many years. He was a hard worker who liked working in the fields; he would plant corn and beans. Mr. Alvarez was a humble man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He also liked to dance and joke around but above all he was a loving father and grandfather.
Mr. Alvarez is survived by his son, Rogelio Alvarez; two daughters, Maria Alvarez Navarro and Eva Basan Navarro; and 20 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Navarro (2006); and his daughter, Maria de Jesus Basan Navarro.
Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Sunday, Feb. 25, from 5-9 p.m. with the rosary recited at 6 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Monday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m.
