The Cabrillo College Seahawks lost 46-16 to the undefeated No. 20 Los Medanos College Mustangs in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburg.
The Seahawks (1-5, 0-1) lost three fumbles and threw an interception in the first half and the Mustangs (6-0, 2-0) turned all four takeaways into scores to take a 33-2 lead.
Cabrillo scored a touchdown before the half, as freshman quarterback Nick Martig hooked up with freshman receiver Casey Hamilton for a 20-yard score. But that was one of few offensive highlights on the night for the Seahawks, who have lost the turnover battle in all six contests this year.
Cabrillo sophomore linebacker Travis Schuhe had another brilliant game. He recovered a fumble and returned it 70 yards for a score while also finishing with nine tackles, two sacks and three tackles for loss.
The rest of the Seahawks’ defense, however, struggled.
Los Medanos amassed 480 yards of offense. Mustangs quarterback Sohail Mohsini shredded the Cabrillo secondary for 335 yards and three scores.
Los Medanos running back Craijon Menefee scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, while Cody Maghuyop and Namontte Grisby also scored on the ground.
Martig completed 12 of his 26 passing attempts for 144 yards with the one score and interception.
Freshman running back Terrence Smith ran 18 times for 75 yards.
Cabrillo freshman defensive lineman Karlos Witherspoon recorded a sack and an interception.
The Seahawks will return to American Golden Coast Conference play on Saturday at home against Monterey Peninsula College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
