WATSONVILLE — Josephine Figueroa Delgado died peacefully in her sleep at a local nursing home on Sunday, July 16, 2017. She was 104.
She was born to Alejo Figueroa and Braulia Santana Sanchez in El Limon, Jalisco, Mexico on May 17, 1913. She grew up in Mexico where she met and married the late Merced Roberto Delgado. They came to live permanently in California and settled in Watsonville and later in years bought their home in Moss Landing that they worked hard to acquire. She loved her home, had a green thumb and planted beautiful roses all around her home. She had worked for Sakata Ranches, Watsonville Canning Company and Green Giant Canning Company.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merced Roberto Delgado; her daughter, Bertha Delgado; three brothers, Ramon, David and Alfredo Figueroa; three sisters, Sara Santana, Paula Santana and Maria Jones. She is survived by her three daughters, Elva Turner (Russell), M. Rebecca Delgado and Angelina Diaz (Benny); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were handled by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Monday, July 24. Mass was held at 1 p.m. at Valley Catholic Church and burial followed.
