Lester Doyle Byers was born in Santa Cruz, Ca., on March 2, 1939. He passed away on December 11, 2024, in Williams, Ca, where he was being cared for at a wonderful acute care facility.
Lester grew up in Watsonville, CA., graduating from Watsonville High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1961, and was sent to France in 1961, shortly after joining. He returned home from France in 1963, and settled in Watsonville, CA. He stayed in Watsonville until he and his wife Linda retired, and moved to Corning, Calif. in 2005 after purchasing their forever home.
He spent most of his working career at the Nestles Plant in Pajaro. After the closure of the plant, he went to his second career at the Lonestar Quarry in Davenport.
Lester had a passion for old cars, having built many custom hot rods with his best friend and cousin, Curtis Darnell. One of his greatest joys was going to car shows, admiring all the beautiful cars, while entertaining his friends with his never ending laughter and jokes.
He was most proud of his children, Ronnie Byers and Shellie(John) Pervinich, and his step-children Syndi Winter, Tim (Rei-Hsiu) Bowen, and Lacey Fender. His biggest and best role was that of Grandpa to Ben and Jack Pervinich, Sophie Harrison, Kaylee Kemmis, Kyle Casillas, Nick Winter, Jade Jacobs, and Adam Bowen. Being Great Grandpa to his 5 great grandkids brought him much joy in his later years.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Dorothy Byers, his brother Marvin Byers, and his cousin/best friend, Curtis Darnell. He is survived by his wife, Linda Byers, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his sister Merle Buksa, his nieces and nephews and their children.
His family wishes to thank his sister in law, Tammy Prevatke, for her devotion and strength during his final few months.
There will be a celebration of life at the family home in Corning, in March of this year.
