Thankfully common sense prevailed and Measure D was defeated. However, those who support environmentally sound electric passenger rail service on the historic Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line must not rest on their laurels.

A concerted effort must be put forth to the Santa Cruz Regional Transportation Commission director and board to authorize the repair and restoration of the line as soon as possible. Foot dragging and delays will only make a mockery of the voter’s support for a transportation entity that will ease traffic congestion within the County and provide needed local connections to future intercity rail service out of Watsonville Junction in Pajaro.

Keep in mind, “Build It Now, It Will Never Be Cheaper.”
