The Monte Vista Christian girls’ basketball team started its season with a 37-27 win over Scotts Valley High on Tuesday night in non-league action.
Angel Alcantar paced the Mustangs with 12 points and added three steals. Lauren De Los Santos chipped in six points and four steals and Madison Hill chimed in with four points and five rebounds.
M.V.C. plays at San Lorenzo Valley High on Saturday at 2 p.m.
• Aptos 59, Carmel 20 – Natalia Ackerman finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in Aptos High’s season-opening win over Carmel High on Tuesday night in non-league play.
Hannah Hocom added 16 points, Gabby Guiffre had nine and Abby Pardue chipped in seven steals and three points.
Aptos continues its season on Friday at home against Palo Alto High on Friday at 6 p.m.

WOMEN’S JC BASKETBALL
• Chabot 66, Cabrillo 60 – Pauli Pappas had 19 points and 15 rebounds in Cabrillo College’s non-conference loss to Chabot on Tuesday night on the road.
Grace Giguiere added 11 points and Teal Maixner had 10. Maddy Miller grabbed 11 rebounds and Lauren Lacey dished nine assits.
Cabrillo (2-1) hosts Ohlone College on Tuesday in their home opener at 7 p.m.
