The Watsonville High girls’ basketball team beat Pacific Grove High, 60-42, to win its fifth straight preseason game on Thursday night at home.

Savanah Quintana had 16 points, 10 steals and six assists, while Evelyn Rios and Jackie Barocio each added nine points for Watsonville (7-2), which travels to San Diego next week to play in the Surf n’ Slam Tournament.

• MVC 60, Carmel 9 – Monte Vista Christian improved to 5-3 on the season with a win over Carmel High on Thursday night in preseason action.

No other stats were reported.

The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday when they host the Don & Martha Price Christmas Classic.

• St. Francis 45, Christopher 36 – Janiya Sevilla (14) and Janessa Yniguez (13) combined for 27 points in St. Francis High’s preseason win over Christopher High on Thursday night.

St. Francis (4-1) plays in the Don & Martha Price Christmas Classic on Wednesday at Monte Vista Christian.

WOMEN’S JC BASKETBALL

• Cabrillo 84, Las Positas 59 – Pauli Pappas had 29 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks, Lauren Lacy chipped in 18 points and 10 assists and Cabrillo College rolled to another preseason victory on Thursday night at home.

Grace Giguiere added nine points and seven rebounds for Cabrillo (8-2), which hosts Lassen College on Dec. 28 at 2:30 p.m.

BOYS’ SOCCER

• Watsonville 3, Scotts Valley 0 – Erik Herrera scored two goals and Oscar Rocha added another in Watsonville High’s preseason victory over Scotts Valley High on Thursday night at Emmett M. Geiser Field in Watsonville.

Watsonville (6-2) is off until Jan. 2 when it will travel to Salinas to play Alisal High in each team’s Monterey Bay League Gabilan division opener at 5:45 p.m.
