The Cabrillo College women’s volleyball team opened up its season by winning the Delta Classic tournament on Saturday at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton.

Cabrillo won four straight matches, including the championship match against defending state champion Fresno City College.

In the five-game championship match win, Ellie Cary, Jolie Samuelson and Bella Bress combined for 41 kills while Mari Molina made 40 assists. Alyssa Nelson had 26 digs, eight assists and three aces.

Cabrillo (4-0) continues its season on Wednesday at the Folsom Lake Classic.

• Taft 2, Cabrillo 0 – The Cabrillo College Seahawks suffered their first loss of the season on Friday night, falling 2-0 to Taft College at home in non-conference play.

Keeper Edi Magdaleno made two saves for the Seahawks (2-1), who return to the pitch today against Foothill College at 2 p.m.

GIRL’S VOLLEYBALL

• PV 3, Anzar 0 – The Pajaro Valley High Grizzlies swept Anzar High, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18, on Friday night in non-league action in Watsonville.

Julie Che had 13 kills and four aces and Jaqui Lopez made 20 assists.

Pajaro Valley begins Monterey Bay League Pacific division play on Thursday at Gilroy High at 6:30 p.m.
