Luz Carrera died on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Watsonville Community Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was 77.

She was born in Zacatecas, Mexico to Pascual and Francisca Acuna on Dec. 28, 1940.

She was a long-time resident of Watsonville for 48 years. She loved spending time with her family. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for all of her family events. She liked to stay busy and work with her hands. She also enjoyed listening to Banda music.

She is survived by her husband, Margarito Sotelo; her sons, Jose Carrera, Gustavo Carrera, Gonzalo Carrera, and Mario Carrera; her daughters, Linda Carrera, Maria Barba, and Mary Lou Niquet; as well as 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 5 from 5-9 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m., at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. Mass will be held on Friday, July 6 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
