WATSONVILLE—Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies on Saturday arrested a man after a brief chase on a stolen motorcycle that had swapped plates.

Alejandro Villarreal

Alejandro Villarreal, 33, was charged with evading police, receiving stolen property and drug possession. He also faces charges for driving while his license was suspended and for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail, where he was being held on Monday without bail.

According to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ashley Keehn, Villarreal fled when a deputy tried to stop him, but stopped when he realized he was being chased.

The motorcycle was returned to its rightful owner, Keehn said.
