WATSONVILLE — A Watsonville man arrested Thursday is suspected of more than 10 armed robberies that occurred in the downtown area, Watsonville Police Det. Rudy Lopez announced.

Cipriano Vasquez Cruz, 30, was charged with robbery and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.

According to Lopez, several victims have reported that a man matching Cruz’s description has brandished a knife and demanded money. The descriptions led detectives to Cruz’s residence.

Cruz was arrested without incident after a “high-risk” traffic stop in the area of West Beach and Walker streets at about 5:45 a.m. after he left his residence, Lopez said.

During the search of Cruz’s residence, detectives found evidence linking Cruz to the robberies, Lopez said.

According to Lopez, the arrest was made possible by cooperation by the witnesses.
