A Capitola man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted two people with a metal pipe on Sept. 18.
Antwain Tiliman, 55, was charged with attempted murder, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, elder abuse, brandishing a deadly weapon, battery, and possession of methamphetamine.
He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail, jail records showed.
Capitola Police said officers were dispatched to a residence on the 1800 block of 44th Avenue following multiple reports of a stabbing, and an assault involving a blunt metal object.
Around 1:45pm police found one man with a head injury and another with a puncture wound on his leg and lacerations to his chest.
Officers rendered aid by applying a tourniquet to his leg to stop further bleeding, Capitola Police said.
He was later airlifted to a regional trauma center.
Investigators believe that the suspect, who had stab wounds on his leg, forcibly entered the residence and used a metal pipe to strike one of the victims in the head. The second victim attempted to intervene and was also assaulted, police said.
The suspect reportedly knew the victims and was familiar with the residence.
Both victims and the suspect are now in medically stable condition.
The suspect was arrested after he was released from the hospital.
Capitola Police were aided by Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies and the California Highway Patrol in securing the crime scene and evacuating the house in question.
A woman who went by the name Ashley said she spotted a man, heavily bleeding, riding a bicycle through the Capitola Gardens apartments. By the time he reached 44th Avenue, he collapsed on the sidewalk, Ashley said. That’s when a man rushed in to help and Ashley phoned 911.
The investigation is ongoing. Any witnesses are asked to call CPD Detectives at 831.471.1141.
