Man arrested within hours of Watsonville shooting

Watsonville Police arrested a man they suspected of shooting a 41-year-old Watsonville man in Struve Slough early Tuesday morning.

Randi Rodriguez, 27, was taken into custody just hours after the 5:30am incident near the 1500 block of Main Street in the slough area behind Panda Express.

The victim, who was shot in the leg, was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover, said Michelle Pulido, spokeswoman for Watsonville Police.

“Our preliminary investigation indicates there may have been a dispute between the suspect and the victim moments before the shooting,” Watsonville Police said.

Rodriguez was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of murder.
