Man faces DUI charges after plowing into six vehicles

WATSONVILLE—A man was arrested on March 5 after he reportedly crashed into six parked vehicles with his pickup and then fled the scene.

Watsonville Police Department Sgt. Henry Robles said the man, identified as Hermeliondo Lopez, 39, was driving a GMC Sierra when he struck a line of parked vehicles on Brewington Avenue and Jasmine Lane. Lopez then parked the pickup and wandered into a grassy field at the end of Brewington Avenue where police found him lying face down.

“It was really scary,” said Ian Webb, as he surveyed the damage to two of his vehicles. “My wife was in one of the cars when it was hit. I’m just glad no one was hurt. We just bought both of the vehicles.”

One witness said he saw the GMC crawl up on top of a few of the vehicles during the crash.

“He was riding with only two wheels on the pavement; it was crazy,” he said.

No injuries were reported.

Lopez was taken by ambulance to Watsonville Community Hospital where he was later arrested. He was charged with DUI, hit and run with property damage, driving with a suspended license and failure to provide insurance.
