SANTA CRUZ—A person was shot while riding in a car just before 2pm in Santa Cruz at the heavily traveled intersection of Ocean Street and San Lorenzo Boulevard.

As Santa Cruz Police raced to the scene they learned the victim had self-transported to Dominican Hospital in a private vehicle.

According to Santa Cruz Police social media, early indicators from the investigation reveal that the shooting stemmed from prior antagonizing interactions between the victim and the suspect shooter and it does not appear to be a random shooting.

Police established Project Rope around the city in hopes of snaring the fleeing suspect. No suspects were rounded up. It was not mentioned by the social media account if the victim was male or female.
