SANTA CRUZ—The Santa Cruz Police Department is investigating after a man was stabbed to death early Sunday morning in Santa Cruz, police spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke said.

Officers were dispatched to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the area of Depot Park at about 3am.

When the officers arrived, they located an unresponsive male suffering from multiple stab wounds, and rendered first aid.

The victim was taken to Dominican Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His identification is being withheld, pending next of kin notification.

During the initial dispatch, officers were provided a description of a man who had fled the scene. Officers located a suspect matching the description who was later positively identified by witnesses. The suspect was taken into custody and later booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on murder charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect’s identification and booking photo are being withheld pending additional witness follow-up, Blaschke said.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Santa Cruz Police Department Investigations Division at 420-5820.
