Watsonville Police on Monday arrested a man wanted on a warrant out of Merced after a brief chase.

Angel Sanchez was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail to await extradition to Merced, Watsonville Police Sgt. Brian Ridgway said.

A witness who asked not to be identified said he saw Sanchez riding a bicycle into the parking lot of the Wooden Nickel at 1819 Freedom Blvd. around 10:45 a.m., with police chasing him. He then dumped the bike and tried to jump over a fence before being Tased, the witness said. 

It was not clear what crime is listed on Sanchez’s warrant.

The chase began near Blanca Lane where police spotted Sanchez. The chase made its way across Freedom Boulevard into a parking lot behind U-Save Liquors where a swarm of police caught up with Sanchez.
