Manuel J. Maciel, age 79, died on Wednesday December 13, 2017 in his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on November 23, 1938, in Topo S. Jorge, Azores, to Adao J. Maciel & Maria C. Maciel.

He came to California in 1960, where he later met his wife Maria J. Maciel of 47 years. He had been a long time resident of Watsonville, CA. He worked at the Watsonville cannery for 35 years and also worked at Birds Eye Foods for 10 years where he later retired.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria J. Maciel and children, Gilbert Maciel and Melissa Maciel; daughters-in-law, Katrina Maciel and Angela Maciel; grandchildren, Jessica, Tyler, Brianna, Aaron and Ava, and one great-grandchild, Jase. He is also survived by 4 sisters: Rosa Matos of Watsonville, Fatima Bettencourt of Turlock, Rita Vieira of Hilmar, Pam Alves of Manteca; and his 2 brothers Tony and Joe Maciel; and his 11 nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20 at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., 5pm-9pm.There will be a Mass and Rosary on Thursday, December 21 at Valley Catholic Church, 2401 E. Lake Ave, at 10am with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
