SALINAS—Aptos High senior Rowan Bowyer scored a pair of goals for the girls’ soccer team in their 5-1 win over North Salinas High in non-league action on Dec. 4. 

Senior midfielder Jazmine Castañeda recorded three assists, and junior goalkeeper Angie Rodriguez made five saves for the Mariners, who improved to 2-0-1 this season.

Senior Julianne Houser got things started in the first half when she scored in the 38th minute on the assist by senior Ava Hymes. A minute later, sophomore Ella Shoemaker scored on another assist by Hymes. 

In the second half, Bowyer scored twice and Kelsea Ford notched a goal. Both scores came with less than four minutes left in the game. Castañeda was there with the assist for all three goals. 

The Mariners play at Fremont High on Tuesday at 6pm. 

At Aptos 1, Los Altos 0: Jazmine Castañeda scored in the 68th minute on an assist from Kelsea Ford in the teams’ non-league game Thursday.

Goalie Kylie Nelson made seven saves for the Mariners.

At Aptos 1, Sobrato 1: Senior Jazmine Castaneda scored an unassisted goal in the 74th minute, but the Bulldogs tied it with 30 seconds left in the teams’ non-league game on Nov. 30.

“This is just the beginning,” Aptos coach Gina Castañeda said. “We prepare for the rest of the season. Really we want to prepare for the CCS. We just learn and move forward from here.” 

Goalie Kylie Nelson made five saves for the Mariners.

MVC 1, Harbor 0: Goalie Alexa Malaspina made nine saves for the Mustangs in a win against the Pirates in the third game of the Watsonville Tournament on Dec. 1.

Jana Komposch scored the winning goal in the 75th minute, giving her nine goals this season. MVC (2-1-0) plays at Salinas (0-0-2) on Tuesday at 6pm.

NMC 1, Seaside 1: North Monterey County High earned a draw against the Spartans in non-league play on Monday. Annie Dorantes Arvizu recorded a goal for Seaside (1-3-1).

The Condors (2-1-1) play at Gonzales (2-0-0) on Thursday at 5:45pm.
