Mario Gonzalez died peacefully at a local nursing center on Aug. 13. He was 68.

Gonzalez was born to Guadalupe and Margarita Gonzalez on Jan. 14, 1951 in Calexico, CA. He was raised in Watsonville and attended local schools, and graduated in 1971 from California School of the Deaf in Berkley.

He worked at West Coast Farms for many years and enjoyed sports. He was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants. He also liked traveling and being surrounded by his family. When visiting you could always catch him watching his favorite movie “Jaws.” Although you could never borrow it, he always had an open spot next to him and an extra box of Fiddle Faddle to share.

Gonzalez is survived by four brothers, Gregory (Maria de Jesus), Moises, John and Guadalupe (Concepcion) Gonzalez; seven sisters, Felicia Medrano, Margaret Gonzalez, Paula Hernandez, Barbara Padilla, Leticia (Ramon) Romero, Hilda (Richard) Angeles and Marina (Adam) Antuna; and numerous, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Violet Gonzalez.

Private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
