‘Matilda’ musical takes the stage

Christian Youth Theatre prepares for performance

Christian Youth Theatre (CYT) will bring its version of Roald Dahl’s “Matilda, the Musical” to the Crocker Theater at Cabrillo College Oct. 27-29.

Organizers say the performance promises to be a “magical experience for theater enthusiasts of all ages.”

“Matilda,” based on Dahl’s 1988 novel, tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, “a precocious 5-year-old girl with the extraordinary gift of telekinesis, who loves reading, overcomes obstacles caused by her family and school, ultimately helping her teacher reclaim her life.

“Despite facing adversity and an incredibly unkind headmistress, Matilda discovers her powers, teaching her a profound lesson that one can change their own story,” organizers say.

The CYT production is a mix of performers, ages 8-18.

“Audiences can anticipate an unforgettable performance filled with stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and show-stopping musical numbers,” said Layne Ahlstrom, resident director of CYT. “We are thrilled to bring the enchanting world of Matilda to the stage. This production showcases the incredible talent of our young performers and our commitment to fostering a love for the arts in our community.”

Tickets for “Matilda, the Musical” can be purchased at bit.ly/Matildathemusical

Shows will run at Cabrillo College’s Crocker Theater, Oct. 27 at 7pm, Oct. 28 at 2pm and 7pm and Oct. 29 at 2pm. The Crocker Theater phone number is 479.6154.
