Monte Vista Christian senior golfer Connor Tran was named the Monterey Bay League Pacific division’s Most Valuable Player, the league recently announced.

Tran guided the Mustangs to a perfect league season and the MBL-Pacific division championship a year after M.V.C. was moved down from the Gabilan division.

The Mustangs also won the Sportsmanship Team award.

Tran was the overall medalist at Monday’s MBL Golf Championships at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey. He fired a two-over par 73 through the unusually windy and cloudy conditions in the Monterey hills.

His standout performance also qualified him for next week’s Central Coast Section regionals back at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch. It will be his third straight trip to CCS.

He has improved in each of this last two appearances. As a sophomore, he finished tied for 81st, and last season he placed tied for 62nd.

Teammate Dennis Yang, a senior, will join Tran at CCS after tying for fourth overall on Monday with a 79.

M.V.C. had hoped to advance as a team, but lost, 225-233, to Salinas High — the runner-up in the Gabilan division — on Tuesday in a playoff for the MBL’s second and final automatic bid.

Palma High secured the league’s first automatic postseason berth by winning the Gabilan division championship.

Tran and Yang earned a spot on the MBL-P First Team. Sophomore Ben Holdaway also made the league’s first team, along with North Monterey County High’s Eli Tolentino.

M.V.C.’s Anthony Carpene and N.M.C.’s Oscar Diaz made the MBL-P Second Team.

Watsonville High freshman Isais Celedon earned a spot on the Sportsmanship Team along with N.M.C.’s Obie Marroquin and M.V.C’s Yang.
