SANTA CRUZ—The man and woman suspected of killing and robbing a woman in Pasatiempo on March 31 made their first court appearance on Tuesday, but did not enter a plea.

Caitlin Crenshaw and Cody Huynh, both 23, return to court on April 14 for continued arraignment. The hearing was delayed after Crenshaw announced her intention to represent herself.

The pair was reportedly staying with the victim, identified as Kimberly Smith, 55.

They were arrested in San Bernardino County. Huynh was in jail for unrelated charges. Crenshaw was in Smith’s car, police said.

The arrest was not Crenshaw’s first brush with the law. She was charged with felony obstruction of justice in 2016 after she falsely accused a man of burglary when a drug deal did not go as planned, according to the Times-News of Burlington, N.C.

The pair was arrested on Feb. 26 when they allegedly attacked an elderly couple in Santa Barbara.
