California Highway Patrol officers stationed at three locations in mid-county Wednesday wrote out 34 citations to motorists who did not stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly trying to sexually assault a woman as she walked in downtown Santa Cruz, and fighting a police officer who came to arrest him, Santa Cruz Police Lt. Warren Barry said.

Efforts are underway to help get the auto shop at Watsonville High School named after one of its long time instructors, Bill Sunderland. Following a 47-year career under the hood at the shop, Sunderland retired in 2017.

A team of workers was at Watsonville Community Hospital Monday, practicing setting up a series of giant tents that someday could serve as a multifaceted mobile hospital.
